After setting off from central Meishan heading east on County Road 162 B, before too long Taiping’s 36 bend cloud road is reached, the road climbing from an elevation of 100 meters to 1000 meters; each corner has a sign with the bend number and nearby sights. It is an alternative way of getting to Alishan.


Taiping was originally called Daping, meaning big plain because of the village is situated on a large flat area in the mountains. Taiping has a pleasant climate and lovely scenery, the slopes covered by lush forest, making it a scenic area really suitable for vacations and leisure.


Taiping has to be passed through when travelling to Ruifeng and Ruili scenic area and income from tourism is one of the main sources of income of the people. The 36 bend cloud road has made Taiping one of the best known scenic spots in the whole of Taiwan.


Taiping is divided into three scenic areas: The makino bamboo forest trail next to Taiping Villa is the famous “filial son road”. Its steps wind up through the forest, the scenery as lovely as a painting. There is also a plum blossom road, named not surprisingly because of the plum blossom trees that line it; every winter the flowers in bloom create a beautiful sight. The third is Zhushou Mountain where the vegetation is mainly bamboo and daylilies.

Walking from Taiping Old Street to Taiping Elementary School the Filial Son Pavilion can be seen in front of the school. Go along the stone step trail and across the bridge to get the famous makino bamboo forest.
