Every spring the annual Alishan sakura season begins and the beautiful sight should not be missed. Alishan Forest Recreation Area has a large number of Yoshino cherry trees, followed in number by Formosan cherry trees;theare also 1000 Yaebenishidare (double-blossom dropping cherry tree ) cherry trees, Alishan is simply the best place to see sakura cherry blossoms in Taiwan.

  • Takne cherry sakura

    Takne cherry sakura

    Of the sakura in the Alishan area, Formosan cherry trees bloom earliest, from January to March;in March pink Takne cherry sakura bloom;Takne cherry bloom earlier than any other Japanese cherry tree but they are few in number at Alishan.

  • Yoshino cherry sakura

    Yoshino cherry sakura

    Yoshino cherry trees are the most numerous cherry trees of Alishan, in full bloom at the end of March, the flowers either pink or white;these are followed by Fuji cherry and Yaebenishidare cherry trees;the latter originated in Japan and has large flowers with a large number of petals, several flowers often growing together.

Additional travel tips

During the flower season, in addition to sakura, magnolia, Crocus Tritoni, Taiwan Alpine Rhododendron and Taiwan Pleione also bloom.

How to get there?

  1. National Highway 1→exit Chiayi system (272K) →Expressway 82→National Highway 3→exit Shuishang System (300K) →Provincial Highway 18→Alishan Forest Recreation Area.
  2. National Highway 1→exit Chiayi system (272K) →Expressway 82→National Highway 3→exit Shuishang System (300K)→Provincial Highway 18→join County Highway 169 at Shizhao→arrive at Tefuye→arrive at Dabang.
