Follow along Chiayi Country Road 154 and turn to the industrial road at the 4.5-km marker, you will soon arrive at the parking lot at the west-side of Taixing Waterfall Trail. This trail leads to Ayexi Waterfall such that it used to be called Ayexi Trail. It was renovated by Alishan National Scenic Area Administration and reopened to public in September 2018. Entering from the west-end of the trail and following the wooden stairs down, you will soon hear the sound of flowing water before arriving at the waterfall observation deck. The wooden table and chairs on the deck are great for taking a break as well as holding tea parties.
Following the boardwalk along the valley and through the tea fields and creek-side trees, you will find a pavilion for taking a break. On the stone bridge crossing the creek, you can observe the joint of the bedrock and the water flows. After crossing the bridge, you will reach the second section of the boardwalk and wooden stairs, where you can observe the third tier of waterfall. The large waterfall deck allows you to enjoy the beauty of Taixing waterfall in its entirety. Ayexi Waterfall has three tiers and its height at 10 to 20 meters. Channels from water erosion can be found on the exposed bedrock. When the water flows from the top of the bedrock through the channels, white chain-like streams are formed. These, along with the green mosses on the rock, form a beautiful scene that is called the Taiwanese Jiuzhaigou Pearl Shoal Waterfall.
After observing the beautiful waterfalls, head down on the trail and connect to the industrial road. Walk a bit more on the industrial road and you will arrive at Ruixing Suspension Bridge. The view from the bridge is great. Nongxing Temple on the opposite side has a rock carved with “stone mill mills all the grains in the world” and a stone mill whose history can be traced back to Daoguang period of Qing Dynasty, showcasing the long history and rich culture of this area.
