The two ends of the South of Clouds Trail can be accessed from under the bridge at Taiping Suspension Bridge Visitor Center towards the south-end of Taiping Suspension Bridge. The east-side entrance connects with the industrial road to Duli Mountain and is also close to the east-side entrance of Xiaozilu Trail. Entering from the east-side, the log-shaped concrete pavement makes the hike very easy. Mosses can be found on the roadside hills. Plants rarely found on the ground can be seen here.
After an easy climb up the slope, you will arrive at a pavilion with poems on the door frame. The tea fields nearby and surrounding cedar trees give a wonderful aroma. Continuing along the tea fields and up another slope, you will reach another lookout and pavilion at the vantage point where you can look out to the surrounding villages and nearby mountains. Towards the other side, you can see Taiping Suspension Bridge. Circling back from the south-end of the trail, once you see the mountains facing Chiayi–Tainan Plain, your view would widen. Once you have reached the highest point of the trail, in addition to the pavilion with the path going through, there is also a lookout deck offering visitors a great view of Taiping Suspension Bridge and the ever-changing surrounding clouds. The path that follows is relatively easy, with only a few turns to watch out for. On the way, you will pass by the south-end entrance of Taiping Suspension Bridge. This section of wooden stairs and boardwalk extend to the industrial road. You will find Taiping Suspension Bridge Visitor Center right ahead down the industrial road.
