To go to Fenqihu Trail, you can take the stairs up from the entrance next to the railroad crossing or through Fenrui Old Trail next to No. 2 Parking Lots. You will first take the natural path without pavement to reach the intersection of the two trails before starting from the west-end of Fenqihu Trail.
Taking the wooden stairs and follow the landscape up and down, the trail is easier than you think with the pleasant atmosphere and multiple rest points and benches. Tall trees along the path will accompany you all the way. The historic site of “coal-making kiln” and the intersecting Gaozaikan Old Road offer a peek into how life was here. After a few turns and crossing an arch bridge, you will enter a lush bamboo forest. The giant flying moth tree shaped like a Formosan sika deer is named “Luding Giant Tree.” The historic remain of a Japanese shrine is part of the history of Fenqihu.
Following the stairs up and crossing County Highway 169, you will find a lookout with excellent view of Fenqihu Train Station and the surrounding villages. Continuing further down and passing the intersection with Wooden Horse logging track, you will soon arrive at the trail entrance next to the railroad crossing.
