They form the road network with external connection, Provincial Highway 3. Intersections of roads and interchanges, as well as main roads at market center, and entrances are prone to congestions during consecutive National holidays. Key easily congested area include:
1. Intersections: From Zhongpu Interchange of National Highway 3 to Dingliu Street, intersection of Provincial Highway 3 and Provincial Highway 18, in front of Shizhuo Gas Station, intersection of Country Highway 169 and Provincial Highway 18.
2. Entrances of Chukou Lonyin Temple, Fengqi Lake, and Alishan Forest Recreation Area. - To avoid congestions between Zhongpu Interchange and Dingliu, you can take the alternative road from Zhuqi Interchange of National Highway 3 southbound. Follow the signs:
1. Towards Alishan

Take Zhuqi exit of National Highway 3 -> County Highway 166 -> Provincial Highway 3 -> County Highway 159A -> Guanghua Village -> Shizhuo -> Provincial Highway 18 -> Alishan Forest Recreation Area
(Incoming 2)
Take Zhuqi exit of National Highway 3 -> County Highway 166 -> Provincial Highway 3 -> Chiayi Country Road 126 (Luzijiao) -> 126-1 (Ammunition depot and military base) -> Chukou Tree Bank -> Provincial Highway 18 -> Shizhuo -> Alishan Forest Recreation Area
2. Towards the city

Alishan Forest Recreation Area -> Provincial Highway 18 -> Shizhuo -> Guanghua Village -> County Highway 159A -> Provincial Highway 3 -> Country Highway 166 -> Zhuqi exit of National Highway 3

Alishan Forest Recreation Area -> Provincial Highway 18 -> Shizhuo -> Chukou Tree Bank -> 126-1 (Ammunition depot and military base) -> Chiayi Country Road 126 (Luzijiao) -> County Highway 166 -> Provincial Highway 3 -> Zhuqi exit of National Highway 3 - Please fill up your tank at the foot of the mountain. Do not wait until you enter the mountain area. If you take National Highway 3 southbound and Zhongpu Interchange, before Alishan Highway and between Zhongpu and Chukou, there are three gas stations. On the 64km between Chukou and Alishan, there are gas stations at Xiding, Shizhuo, and Alishan. Please be aware that the business hours of the Shizhuo Gas Station are 8:00 to 17:00, with unleaded gasoline #95 and premium gasoline available.

Xinyi Gas Station, 101.5-km marker of New Central Cross-Island Highway/ Provincial Highway 21 - 1. Warm clothes: The temperature drop can be substantial in the mountains. It is recommended that visitors book accommodations in advance and bring with them enough warm clothes.
2. Sun protection: UV is high on the mountain. Be sure to protect yourself against the sunlight.
3. Rain protection and anti-slippery gears: It's rainy in the mountains and weather can be unpredictable. You are recommended to bring rain gears and wear anti-slippery shoes in case of rain.
4. Discounted tickets: Those eligible for discounted tickets for the Forest Recreation Area should have the appropriate ID with them.
5. Shades or goggles: For those planning to watch the sunrise, to protect your eyes, be sure to wear shades or goggles. - 1. Check your car before the trip: The Alishan area is hilly and the mountain roads are winding. Be sure to do all the necessary checks and maintenance work on your car to avoid any inconvenience from your car breaking down on the way.
2. Check the traffic: Be sure to check the local traffic online before the trip. You can also refer to the official websites of the destinations for traffic information.
3. Be aware of the weather condition: Check the local weather before the trip, particularly if it's rainy or foggy. Drivers must take into consideration of the rain when they drive. Drive slowly even when going uphill and always put safety first.
4. Driving fast and overtaking: Exceeding the speed limit and illegal overtaking are more prone to accidents on the mountain roads compared to driving in the city.
5. Illegal parking: Mountain roads are narrow. Illegal parking will cause inconvenience to or even jeopardize the safety of other cars.
