Fireflies and Cattle Egrets – Hidden in the Valley, Full of Life
Summer night – twinkling fireflies
Each year from late spring to early summer, thousands of fireflies gather at Alishan. The population accounts for about two-thirds of Taiwan’s fireflies from low to medium high altitude areas, and up to 42 species. No wonder this area is known as the best place to view fireflies. Many communities hold nighttime guided tours and other related tours during firefly high seasons, and show visitors the enjoyment of a sparkling romantic atmosphere.

Early Autumn – Cattle Egrets Spread Their Wings
As early autumn fades into mid autumn, thousands of Cattle egrets migrate south, and pass by Daxing Village of Meishan Township in Chiayi County. Flocks of them fly along the river valley of Qingshuixi, circling upward with the airflow, and fly over mountains toward the south. This unique, special ecological scene in Taiwan create a wonderful picture as hundreds of Cattle egrets hover in the air to transform into a variety of lineups. As if silver dragons are flying in the valley, these creatures always make onlookers exclaim incredulously!
