The Alishan Four Seasons Tea Festival features tasting the unique teas of Alishan each season. In the spring, a green tea set is used to brew the fragrant Oolong tea from the Leye tea region. In the summer, a red tea set is used to brew Qing-Xin-Da-Mao red tea from the Xiding tea region. In the fall, a white tea set is used to brew the medium roast Zhulu Oolong tea from the Shizhuo tea region. In the winter, a black tea set is used to brew a dark roast Oolong tea from Dinghu tea region. The locations for the tea ceremonies each season also incorporate the philosophy of the Five Elements – metal, wood, water, fire, earth – and the energy from the four directions – east, west, south, and north. To fully enjoy this experience, the atmosphere is also enhanced by other artistic elements – music, fragrant incense, flower arrangement and tea drinking. Four different kinds of tea are served in a particular order to allow guests to enjoy the natural progression of the taste, and the ideal timing for each tea to be served. During the tea ceremony, the tea expert exerts a wonderful tacit understanding of the process, which enhances the cohesive Alishan tea culture and tourism experience.

The Summer Forest Festival and the “2019 Formosa Summer Festival – Cooling Up the Mountain, Cooling Down the Sea” events worked together to hold the festivals in 3 excellent best-kept-secret summer forest locations – Dinghu Huanhu Trail, Fenqihu Incense Cedar Tree Forest, and Shizilu Station Viewing Platform. The various tea festivals are named after different solar terms and are hosted by each community using seasonal flowers and plants to enhance the atmosphere. The festivals are located at the following locations: Lixia Tea Ceremony Area in the square in front of Guanyin Rock in Dinghu, created by the Dinghu Community; Xiaoman Tea Ceremony Area in Dinghu Diyi Forest created by the Shizhuo Community; Mangzhong Tea Ceremony Area created by the Xiding Community; Summer Solstice (Xiazhi) Tea Ceremony Area at Longzhu Rock in Dinghu created by the Leye Community; Xiaoshu Tea Ceremony Area is in Shizilu Station Viewing Platform hosted by the Shizi and Gongxing Communities; Dashu Tea Ceremony Area in the Incense Cedar Tree Forest in Fenqihu, hosted by the Fenqihu Community. The festival also incorporates the significance of each solar term when each tea is served. The first and second servings of tea are Alishan Oolong tea, red tea or Jinxuan tea. The third to fifth servings of tea keep the other tea as the base and add ingredients to them that suit the current solar term, and serve them with appropriate tea pastries. There are also poets chanting poems that describe the solar terms or tea, encouraging tourists to chant along. Each guest will also receive a limited and exclusive teacup made for the Four Seasons Tea Tour Festival.
