Three Main Recreation Systems
Provincial Highway 18 extends across the main roads of Alishan National Scenic Area, and it features the most iconic scenery in Alishan. You will see vistas of tea gardens, sea of clouds, sunrise, sunset, Qing Dynasty developments, Japanese influence, and old railroads for logging transports as you ascend from the lower flat land up to the mountain.

Slow down and have fun
The Northwest Corridor lies mainly between County Roads 166 and 162. Qing Dynasty immigrants developed this area, and these days the ancient road and houses still stand, offering a rich glimpse into the past. The tea garden, bamboo forest, and natural shield provided by the forest offer an excellent ecological environment. This area has become a new choice for a fun vacation spot.
Traveling from County Road 162 will take you to Taiping, Longyan, Bihu and Ruifeng. From County Road 166, you’ll reach Wenfeng, Jinshi, Taixing, Renshou and Taihe. County Road 169 takes you to Fengshan, and County Road 149 takes you to Laiji.
Along Alishan Highway
Visiting Alishan for the first time – Start from the iconic Provincial Highway 18
Provincial Highway 18 (Alishan Highway) is the main road across the Alishan National Scenic Area, and it’s most iconic route. Ascending the mountains from the flatlands, you can see vistas of tea gardens, the sea of clouds at sunrise, the sacred tree, old settlements, Japanese-era items, and old logging railroads.
Provincial Highway 18 takes you to Chukou, Xiding, Longtou, Shizhuo and the Alishan Forest Recreation Area. If you connect to County Road 169 from Highway 18 and drive about 50km, you’ll reach Fenqihu; from here, County Road 159 can take you to Guanghua and Bantianyan.
Tsou Tribal Village
A short trip to visit a tribal village and experience indigenous culture
The Tsou Tribal Village consists of Four Northern Villages and Three Southern Villages. From Provincial Highway 18 at Shizhuo, travelling to County Road 169 will take you to the southern section of the road, where the four villages on the north side are located. These are Leye, Dabang (including Tefuye), Lijia and Laiji. From Provincial Highway 15 at Longmei, travelling to Chiayi Town Road 129 will take you to the Zhou Tribe’s Three Southern Villages: Shanmei, Xinmei and Chashan.
