Tunnel 33 of Alishan Mountain Railway was abandoned years ago after a cave-in and the secluded spot became a bat haven. To prevent human interference the entrance to the tunnel is fenced off. Shuisheliao’s old railway station has been turned into the Bat Ecology Hall in which visitors can learn how bats live and where conservation concepts can also be disseminated.
