Introduction

After the legendary Alishan Sacred Tree was naturally laid to rest in June 1998, the Alishan Xianglin Sacred Tree and the Giant Tree Trail System stepped into the spotlight as the park's premier iconic landmarks.

The Alishan National Forest Recreation Area currently features two sections of the Giant Tree Trail, separated by the Shenyi Bridge:

Giant Tree Trail Section 1: Spanning 600 meters from the Thousand-Year Cypress to the Alishan Sacred Tree Islet, this section was built using eco-friendly construction techniques with elevated wooden boardwalks and point-foundation concrete supports. Completed in November 1998, it includes 3 elevated wooden bridges and showcases 20 ancient Red Cypresses (with trunk diameters ranging from 5 to 12.1 meters and heights between 25 and 42 meters).

Giant Tree Trail Section 2: Constructed starting in 2001, this 418-meter trail begins at Shenyi Bridge and winds through a primeval cypress forest, housing 16 magnificent Red Cypresses. Among them, Giant Tree No. 28 stands out as the tallest and oldest tree along the trail, boasting a trunk circumference of 13.1 meters.

Beginning in mid-March each year, Mori Rhododendrons bloom brilliantly along the trails. Their vibrant clusters adorn the towering cypresses, creating a breathtaking spring scenery amidst the shifting mountain mists.
